The Cardon Group of Companies is seeking a Manager, GIS for our offices located in Calgary Alberta. The GIS Manager will be responsible for leading the GIS team and must have a high level of proficiency in all facets of managing GIS projects.

Role and Responsibilities:

Reporting to senior corporate leadership this position requires the management of GIS projects, client relationships, bids and proposals, defining the direction of GIS services, and most importantly leading the GIS Services team. The ideal candidate has excellent project management and leadership skills with a proven track record of developing strong teams and delivering successful projects.  Core competences include a deep understanding of GIS theories and practices, ESRI ArcGIS, and Extract Transform Load systems (ETL) is required.  Furthermore, this person will grow to understand and help integrate our internal processes and proprietary software solutions with GIS systems. Other duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide vision and direction for the GIS team
  • Create intelligent KPIs that measure the success and performance of GIS services
  • Lead and mentor GIS personnel working to develop skills and team cohesion
  • Manage all aspects GIS projects including scope, deliverables, and timelines
  • Champion the GIS group within the organization educating internal stakeholders on the amazing capabilities of the team and analyzing how the team can assist in all aspects of corporate processes and projects
  • Architect and develop database structures
  • Ensure the teams profitability through tracking and projecting of team members timesheets, billable hours, projects, and schedules
  • Support the GIS team by removing potential obstructions, ensuring they have the resources to be successful in their roles and identifying opportunities for professional growth and development


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Technical Diploma from a recognized post-secondary technical institution, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience in complex GIS projects, ESRI Suite, including ArcGIS Online
  • Proven experience managing, leading, training, and developing members of a team
  • Strong knowledge of ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Collector and Survey123
  • Experience working with FME, FME Server or Python scripting would be considered an asset
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
